Destylarnia Laphroaig

Laphroaig Distillery was founded in 1815 and has been associated since its inception until now with the strong, peaty and sea flavor characteristic of whisky from the Islay region. Whisky owes its flavor profile mainly to malt dried with smoke from local peat (the process takes place in a traditional malt house, where barley malt is produced on concrete floors and dried in buildings with a characteristic pagoda roof), the proximity of the sea, to which the distillate owes its iodine , salty aromas, as well as the squat shapes of the seven stills working in the distillery, which give the distillates their distinctive character.

It was thanks to the efforts of the owners of the Laphroaig distillery, among others, that whisky connoisseurs around the world began to appreciate the sharp peaty and smoky nature of Islay Scotch whiskys. Its growing popularity in the world was not stopped even by the American prohibition - whisky was sold in the USA at that time as a medicine, and it was the characteristic iodine smell that was to convince American customs officials that this whisky has healing properties. Currently, Laphroaig belongs to the Beam Suntory group.

The name of the Laphroaig distillery in Gaelic means “picturesque valley by the bay”. The distillates are most often aged here in oak bourbon casks. It is the only Scottish distillery to hold a Royal Warrant, personally awarded by the Prince of Wales in 1994. 15-year-old Laphroaig is reportedly his favorite Scotch whisky.
