Destylarnia The Glenlivet

The Glenlivet is undoubtedly one of the most famous and recognized by connoisseurs of Scottish distilleries. Its history dates back to 1774, although it officially started in 1824. Already in the 19th century its name was considered a synonym for high quality, so many other distilleries, including the famous Macallan, decided to add the name “Glenlivet” to their products. Supposedly, in 1822, King George IV, during his visit to Scotland, asked for a glass of the well-known Glenlivet whisky.

The Glenlivet Distillery is located in the Speyside region, in a small town called Glenlivet, on the River Livet. It draws mineral-rich water from Josie’s Well and other nearby streams for its whisky production, and the barley is delivered from Portgordon. The rivers from the Glenlivet valley are extremely clean, and flowing from the mountains, they absorb the flavors and aromas of Scottish peat bogs and heathers along the way, which contributes to the unique and world-renowned taste of the whisky produced there. The Glenlivet Distillery is also distinguished by a unique company of stills, whose characteristic, bulbous shape and a long, slender neck help to obtain light tastes and aromas of whisky. The spouts from this distillery are characterized by the mildness and harmony of flavors typical of the Speyside region, as well as a proportion of floral and fruity notes. Most of the production is sold as official single malt spouts, and the rest usually goes to the production of blended whisky issued by Pernod Ricard.
