Destylarnia Strathisla
The Strathisla Distillery is one of the oldest distilleries in Speyside. It was founded in 1786 in the place where the brewery had been closed before. Initially, the distillery was called Milltown, but after a long time it was shortened to Milton. The distillery was so called until 1870 when the distilleries were named Strathisla from the Gaelic word „Strath” which means a river valley, wide and not too deep. However, after twenty years the name Milton was reverted and that was the name of the distillery until 1951, when the name Strathisla was reverted again, which remains to this day.
The distillery produces distillates mainly for blends such as Chivas, making its single malt whisky little known. On the market you can find 12-year-old single malt and cask strength versions, but this only in Visitor Centers of distilleries belonging to the Chivas group.
