Mark Kent announced the new Chief Executive of SWA
The Scotch Whisky Association has announced that Mark Kent, former UK ambassador to Argentina, will replace Karen Betts as CEO. Kent will take up the new position in January 2022 as Betts leaves SWA in December 2021 to take up the position of Chief Executive of the Food and Beverage Federation.
Mark Kent has worked for over 30 years at the UK Office for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). From 2016, he was the British ambassador to Argentina, and previously he was also the United Kingdom's ambassador to Thailand, Vietnam, and also served in British embassies in Mexico and Brazil. Kent will be the ninth Chief Executive in SWA's 110-year history.
The future Chief Executive said:
“I am delighted to have been appointed as CEO of the Scotch Whisky Association. As a former Ambassador, I know in what high regard the Scotch Whisky industry and the SWA is held worldwide. After a challenging period, I’m looking forward to helping the industry to unleash its full potential and enable people across the globe to discover and enjoy our premium and iconic product. The Scotch Whisky industry has a fantastic history, great stories to tell and continues to innovate. I can’t wait to get started.”
