Sales results of French alcohol companies

Several of the largest alcohol companies have published their sales figures. French companies LVMH, Rémy Cointreau and Pernod Ricard talk about increases in the reported periods, in line with a rebound and high demand in the European, American and Chinese markets.

LVMH

Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy is a French concern operating in the segment of luxury products. The concern owns the Scottish whisky brands Ardbeg and Glenmorangie.

The company's wine and spirits division revenue reached €4.25 billion in the first nine months of the year, an increase of 30% compared to the same period in 2020.

The group also experienced "particularly strong" growth this year in the US and Europe due to the reopening of restaurants and the slow but steady recovery of tourism.

Rémy Cointreau

French group Rémy Cointreau, owner of Scotch whisky brands Bruichladdich, Port Charlotte and Octomore, saw organic sales grew by 52% in the first half of fiscal 2021. The company's sales rose to 645.3 million euros in the six months to September 30, 2021. The increase was due to a "very strong trend" in China and the US and a "solid pace" in Europe.

In addition, the company's whisky portfolio did well in China as a result of single malt demand from younger consumers. Looking ahead, the company said it expected "strong" operating profit growth throughout the year. The group will increase its communications investment this year to help brands rebuild and grow in the medium term.

Pernod Ricard

Another giant of the alcohol industry, French concern Pernod Ricard, owner of Scotch whisky brands from the Chivas Brothers group, reports a very dynamic start in the three months until September 30, 2021. Sales in this period reached EUR 2.718 billion. Off-trade sales remained resilient and many markets were supported by the reopening of the on-trade sector.

By region, the US recorded a strong first quarter with sales up 9%, while China and Europe saw sales grew by 22%. Meanwhile, global sales in the Travel Retail sector returned to growth in all regions, with an overall increase of 55%.
